AT&T customers reported problems on Labor Day, as Downdetector showed more than 600 complaints tied to an AT&T internet outage. The largest share of the reports was tied to 5G home internet, while broadband internet and wifi were also affected.
The surge was enough to draw attention because more than 40 percent of the issues were linked to 5G home internet alone. That left a clear picture of which service was drawing the most frustration, even as the problem was not widespread.
Labor Day is the reason the reports stood out now. People were already dealing with the outage and talking about it on social media, while Google searches were also picking up, which helped push the issue into broader view. Downdetector’s count showed the complaints were real and numerous, but the available information still points to a limited disruption rather than a nationwide failure.
What remains unanswered is the simplest part: why the reports climbed at all. For now, AT&T customers affected by the problem can see which services were hit hardest, but not what set it off in the first place.
