An employee shuttle bus crashed at Newark Liberty International Airport early Monday, injuring multiple people and shutting part of the airport’s traffic flow while crews cleared the roadway. The accident happened around 3 a.m. on the Terminal B Departures Level 3 roadway.
The injured were taken to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation, and their injuries were described as non-life-threatening. Even so, the crash was enough to keep the Level 3 roadway closed as crews removed debris and investigators continued their work.
That shutdown mattered because the roadway serves a busy part of the airport, and the wreck left the area dealing with the aftermath before the day’s traffic fully built. Ben Mitchell, reporting on the incident, said the accident involved an employee shuttle bus, but the cause was not immediately explained.
That unanswered question is now at the center of the response at Newark Liberty International Airport. The injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, but the need for hospital treatment, the debris removal and the ongoing investigation point to a crash serious enough to disrupt airport operations even after the worst of it passed.
