An investor group around Thomas Müller and Mats Hummels has bought 90 percent of Estrela Amadora, giving the former FC Bayern München players a stake in the Portuguese first-division club and putting Johannes Mösmang at the center of its new leadership.
Estrela Amadora announced on the past Tuesday that the group, which also includes Yann Sommer and Lucas Hernández, had taken control through the share capital purchase. A Bola reported that the price for the 90 percent stake was 40 million euros, a figure that implies a club valuation of about 44.4 million euros before rounding. The move turns a side long known for survival into one now backed by investors with heavyweight football names attached.
Mösmang, the new club president, said the former Bayern players will be used in specific football roles: Sommer for goalkeepers, Hummels for defense and Müller for attack. He said they will help judge players and possible new signings, and also contribute to networking, public relations and player talks. He added that the setup gives the group a chance to test itself in management while bringing expertise into all areas.
That ambition sits on top of a difficult history. Estrela Amadora was dissolved in 2011 because of financial difficulties, then rebuilt by former members, spent seven years only as a youth department and later fought its way back through the lower leagues. The club has also said it wants to become a springboard for young players from football development countries, with the Liga Portugal Betclic seen as a development market rather than a dead end.
The new ownership changes the scale of the club, but it does not erase its past. A 90 percent stake gives the investor group clear control over decisions and direction, while leaving just 10 percent outside the deal. The unanswered question is how far the football names will go beyond evaluation and advice, and whether a club that once disappeared in bankruptcy can hold its footing this time.
