Ryanair will keep flying from Friedrichshafen to Mallorca in the winter flight schedule, turning a route that had been tied mainly to the warmer months into a year-round link from Bodensee-Airport. The airline is also keeping up to three weekly flights on the timetable, so the island remains within reach even after the summer peak.
That matters now because Ryanair has only recently resumed flights from Friedrichshafen, after returning this summer with regular service to Alicante and Palma de Mallorca. The carrier says its summer flights were well used and that its target of about 90 percent occupancy was met in Friedrichshafen, a sign it sees enough demand to keep the route going.
For Jochen Krumm, the airport’s new managing director, the decision fits the new direction he has pushed since taking over. Krumm approached Ryanair proactively, and the two sides have held many talks in recent months. Those discussions have gone beyond a single route, with Ryanair and Bodensee-Airport agreeing to work together longer than originally expected.
Ryanair wants to stay long term at Bodensee-Airport, and the winter extension is the clearest sign yet that the relationship is holding. The airport had been facing bad news previously, so a stable Mallorca connection and a year-round schedule are the sort of practical gains that can change the tone around the airport faster than any slogan.
There is still one open piece. Talks about the next summer flight schedule are already under way, and Marcel Pouchain Meyer has mentioned “some surprises” for the plan without saying what they are. For travelers, the simple answer is already in place: Mallorca is no longer just a summer destination from Friedrichshafen. For the airport, the next answer will be whether those surprises bring even more than a winter-proof route.
