Suzie Skinner, the widow of Christopher Skinner, later became involved with John-Paul Miller after both of their spouses had died, linking two deaths that have kept Myrtle Beach under a hard light. The renewed attention comes as a new Netflix documentary on Mica Miller puts the relationship web back in public view.
Suzie was previously married to Chris, a South Carolina man who became a disabled Army veteran turned motivational speaker after a drunk-driving crash left him paralyzed from about the collar bones down. He once said the wreck came when he was 20 years old, after a night out that ended with him being thrown from a car and breaking his neck at the C-5 C-6 level. He and Suzie had two children together, and she is understood to have worked as a physical therapist in Myrtle Beach.
The couple’s lives overlapped with John-Paul Miller through the church community in Myrtle Beach, and Miller later presided over Chris’s funeral. Chris died in September 2021 after being found unresponsive in a neighborhood swimming pool in Myrtle Beach and was taken to a hospital, where he died. Miller’s wife, Mica, died in April 2024 after being found near a riverbank with a single gunshot wound. Her death was officially ruled a suicide, though her family and friends questioned the circumstances.
That divide is part of why these deaths continue to draw scrutiny. Mica’s case has fueled speculation online, and Chris’s death was later re-examined by authorities, even as the record does not say what prompted the review. The overlap between the two families has only deepened the questions around how the deaths were viewed, and how much of the story remains unsettled.
What is clear is that Suzie’s connection to JP Miller is now part of a wider public search for answers. JP was a pastor at Solid Rock Church in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and has not been charged in connection with either death. For now, the new documentary has not changed the legal picture — but it has pushed the relationships, and the unanswered questions around them, back into the center of the story.
