Instead, Threads users said the report stripped out the compassion the victim’s family deserved and left behind questions about the documents shown on screen.
The criticism centered on the way the broadcast framed the case. It focused on exemption from prosecution, compliance with regulations and the family’s consent, while users said it offered no comfort for the family of Đỗ Ngọc Phương Thùy, who was killed in the crash. One user said the report did not include a single word of condolence, even as the broadcast used the victim’s father to explain matters on behalf of the person responsible. Nguyễn Sỹ Cương did not appear in the program.
That reaction matters because the report was presented as a closing account of an incident that had already been tied to a public figure, and the audience judged it by whether it felt complete and accurate. Đỗ Việt Hùng was part of the broadcast, but the clips that drew the sharpest scrutiny were the physical records shown on screen. Users questioned why the crash happened at 1:15 p.m. on May 30, 2025, while the blood sample for alcohol and drug testing was not received until May 31, 2025, and the results were issued only on June 4, 2025.
That line of criticism deepened when users pointed to a name discrepancy in the paperwork. The examination report used Nguyễn Sĩ Cương, while other records identified Nguyễn Sỹ Cương, prompting claims that the documents did not line up cleanly. One user asked how officials could accept that and whether the person who caused the crash and the person whose blood was tested were being treated as two different people. Another said there was something fake and appalling about the interview with the victim’s father, though they could not prove it.
The backlash has turned a broadcast that was meant to settle the issue into a fresh public dispute over empathy, accuracy and accountability. With criticism spreading on Threads and no sign yet of an official correction in the material shown on air, the question now is not whether the outrage will fade, but whether the inconsistencies users flagged will ever be answered plainly.
