Apple said iOS 27 will be released widely on Monday, September 14, with the update expected to land around 10 a.m. Pacific Time, or 1 p.m. Eastern Time. Owners of the iPhone 11 series and newer should be able to download it through Settings under General and Software Update.
That is why people are asking when does iOS 27 come out now: the date is fixed, the rollout is near, and the first wave is broad enough to cover phones that are several generations old. For many users, this is a routine software push. For others, it is the first chance to see whether the next major Apple update still reaches a device that is not at the top of the product line.
The update is not just about timing. Apple said iOS 27 also brings a dedicated Siri app and more Apple Intelligence features, but those remain limited to the iPhone 15 Pro and newer. Siri AI is the ChatGPT-like version of Siri that can answer more or less anything, use personal information stored on the iPhone, see what is on screen, and carry out actions in more apps that support it. It also starts in English only.
That split matters because iOS 27 can reach the iPhone 11 series, yet the features Apple is leaning on most will not reach every supported phone. The new assistant tools also will not be initially available in the EU on iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and watchOS 27, leaving a gap between what can be installed and what can actually be used.
Apple also said it refined the Liquid Glass design introduced on iOS 26, with more uniform refraction, better contrast and sharper, more detailed app icons. A new slider lets users make the look clearer or more tinted. The company said app launches are up to 30% faster, new photos in the Photos library load up to 70% faster and AirDrop transfers are up to 80% faster.
There is one more feature that may draw attention once the update goes live: iPhone Handoff, which lets people switch between two iPhones while using the same phone number on each device. It depends on carrier support and may come with a fee. T-Mobile in the U.S. and Deutsche Telekom in Germany will be first to offer it, with Verizon and EE set to follow by the end of the year. In the U.S. only, iOS 27 also adds bill splitting powered by Apple Cash and Apple Intelligence.
For most users, the practical answer is simple: iOS 27 should show up tomorrow morning, and if their phone is compatible, the download should be waiting in Software Update. The harder question is not when it arrives, but how much of Apple’s new AI pitch arrives with it.
