Amazon Uber Eats replaces Grubhub for Prime members in the United States

Amazon has made Uber Eats its official restaurant delivery partner for Prime members in the United States, ending the company’s existing Grubhub arrangement on Thursday. Prime members can now order through Amazon.com and the Amazon Shopping app without creating an Uber account, and orders above $25 will not carry a delivery fee.

The move matters because it changes a benefit that sat inside Prime for years. Amazon first struck a deal with Grubhub in 2022 to offer members a free Grubhub+ subscription, then widened that arrangement two years later so the free membership continued as part of the offer. Under the new setup, that path disappears from Amazon.com and the Amazon Shopping app, even as Amazon says it has found a better restaurant delivery experience to offer instead.

For Prime members, the immediate pitch is simple: Amazon and Uber are offering $20 off each of the first two orders of $25 or more during the first two weeks. The larger point is that Amazon is not starting from scratch with Uber. The two companies already work together in cloud computing, Zoox robotaxis and the integration of Uber Eats into Amazon’s AI-powered Alexa+ assistant, which helps explain why Amazon chose this partner rather than searching for another one.

Still, the switch comes with an asterisk. Prime members can no longer place orders through Amazon.com or the shopping app with Grubhub, which means the old benefit ends even as the new one begins. Amazon said it evaluates its third-party offers continuously, but the practical result is that the restaurant delivery access tied to Prime has been redirected, not expanded. Members who already activated Grubhub+ can keep using that membership through December 31, 2027, giving them a long runway to adjust before the old arrangement fully fades out.
