Fidium Fiber users across Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont reported internet outages on Thursday afternoon, with complaints piling up as websites, apps and phone support stopped working for some customers.

Reports of the Fidium outage began coming in around 3:10 p.m. EDT Thursday, giving the disruption a clear start time and turning it into a live problem for people trying to get online in more than one New England state. Customers said they could not access the internet, and some said they could not get through on the company’s website, app or phone support.

That pattern put the outage tracker at the center of the story. Downdetector began receiving the reports around 3:10 p.m. EDT, and most of them came from users in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. One user said internet was down in northern Vermont. Another said southern NH was down. A third said the website would not load and WiFi was completely dead in Southern Maine.

The complaints were not just about losing service. One customer wrote that phone support just disconnects, website won’t load, internet dead. Another said customer service gave a busy signal and then hung up in Westbrook, Maine. Those reports suggested that even the channels meant to explain the outage were failing at the same time the connection was.

There was one sign that service may have started coming back for some people. A customer in Keene, New Hampshire said service was back on there, even as other users in the region were still reporting outages. That split picture left the outage unresolved in practical terms for many households across Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

The cause of the outage and the timeline for full restoration remain unknown. For now, the most important fact is that a multi-state Fidium Fiber disruption hit on Thursday afternoon, spread across three states and left customers waiting for both service and an explanation.
