Taco Bell is selling the Salt & Straw Churro Ice Cream Taco at locations nationwide for a limited time, putting the dessert in front of far more customers than its first run ever reached. The item costs $3.99 and arrives with a second collaboration, the Salt & Straw Choco-Waffle Chiller.
That is why people are searching for it now: the dessert is on menus today, not later, and the rollout is broad enough to make it feel like a real return rather than a one-off stunt. Taco Bell and Salt & Straw have tied the launch to a sweepstakes for Taco Bell Rewards members, with a short entry window on Sept. 8.
Tyler Malek, co-founder and head ice cream maker at Salt & Straw, said the reaction to the earlier Tacolate surprised the company and made it clear guests wanted it to stay. This time, he said, the brands wanted to build something new that could travel beyond Salt & Straw stores and reach Taco Bell customers across the country.
The Churro Ice Cream Taco is built around a crispy waffle cone shell finished with puffed rice and a dark chocolate-flavored coating, then filled with Salt & Straw’s new Churro Ice Cream. Taco Bell says the limited-edition dessert is available nationwide, while the Choco-Waffle Chiller is priced at $4.69 and is limited to Live Más Café menus in California, Las Vegas, Houston and Dallas.
That split matters because it shows how the collaboration has changed. Last year’s Tacolate was a Salt & Straw store item, and the original Cinnamon Ancho Tacolate still lives there year-round, including through Salt & Straw’s website with nationwide shipping. The new ice cream taco, by contrast, has moved onto Taco Bell’s own menu, which is the difference between a specialty release and a national fast-food launch.
Members of the Taco Bell Rewards loyalty program can enter to win one of 100 limited-edition Salt & Straw x Taco Bell Igloo Playmate Coolers, each bundled with three ice cream tacos and additional merch inspired by the partnership. The sweepstakes opens Sept. 8 at 5 p.m. ET and 2 p.m. PT, then closes at 6 p.m. ET and 3 p.m. PT.
What Taco Bell has not said is how long the nationwide sale will last, which leaves the dessert’s run open even as the launch is live. For now, the answer to where to get the Taco Bell Choco Taco is simple: at Taco Bell, while it lasts.
