Kelvin Fletcher and Liz Fletcher have made the kind of farm decision that leaves a mark long after the gate closes: their pet lamb Aga has been moved into the wider flock on their Cheshire farm. The moment, shown in episode seven of series four of their ITV reality show, came after an emotional farewell that made clear how hard the choice was for the family.
It is the latest reason viewers are searching for Kelvin Fletcher now, as the fourth series has come to an end and this scene captures the central pull of the show — the clash between farming necessity and family attachment. For Marnie, the move was especially hard to take. She was visibly upset and pleaded, “I don’t want him to go,” as the family prepared to let Aga leave the security of home and mix with the rest of the flock.
The Fletchers had raised Aga from birth, and Liz said that meant the lamb had become more than livestock. “We’ve had him from literally day one,” she said. “The second he was born, we’ve looked after him, and it’s a success that he’s a healthy lamb, and he’s good enough and well enough to now go out in the big field.” Kelvin, meanwhile, described the moment as one they had all been dreading and said the family had grown deeply attached to the little animal, who he said was “more like a dog than a sheep.”
Before Aga rejoined the flock, Kelvin marked him with a love heart on his back, a small gesture that captured how personal the decision had become. He also tried to soften the blow for Marnie, telling her they would check on him later and promising that Aga was still very much part of the family. At one point, he reassured her that the lamb was only in the field with his friends, “just like the first day at school,” and said that in a couple of hours he would be running around with them.
That reassurance mattered because the family’s farming day did not end with Aga’s move. They also sent two of their sheep to slaughter, a reminder that the attachment they felt to one lamb sat inside a wider business of hard choices. Marnie’s fear that Aga might be sent to the butchers for the family’s dinner showed how much the decision weighed on her, even as Kelvin and Liz said moving him was the right thing for the animal and for the farm.
The unresolved part is what comes after the tears. The family said they would check on Aga later, but the story leaves open how permanent this new arrangement will be for Marnie’s favourite lamb. For now, Aga has joined the flock; the harder question is how long a family that has loved him from day one can keep him safely there.
