Mexican authorities extradited Raúl Luis Martins Coggiola to Argentina on Friday, handing over the man known as El Rey del Burdel at the Aeropuerto Internacional de Cancún. The move came one day after Argentina extradited Fernando Farías Laguna to Mexico, turning two cross-border cases into a fast-moving exchange between the two countries.
Martins Coggiola, identified as a former agent of the Secretaría de Inteligencia del Estado de Argentina, was required by the Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires to continue proceedings there. The Juzgado Nacional en lo Criminal y Correccional Federal Número 1 says he is wanted for probable participation in asociación delictuosa, trata de personas con fines de explotación sexual, and lavado de dinero, and the FGR approved his delivery under the Tratado de Extradición signed between México and the República Argentina.
The case carries more weight because the allegations reach beyond one country. The FGR linked Martins Coggiola to exploitation sexual, extorsión, and ties in Mexico with Cártel Los Zetas and Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación. It also said his own daughter declared that he had ties with those criminal organizations, while investigations indicated that between 2010 and 2019 he allegedly led a criminal organization dedicated to sexual exploitation in establishments presented as Bar, Café, and Whiskeria.
His defense tried to stop the transfer, arguing that his health and age made extradition impossible. Mexican authorities did not accept that argument. Instead, they delivered him so he could continue his transfer process and face the judicial steps required in Buenos Aires, leaving the core dispute now in the Argentine court that asked for him in the first place.
What happens next is plain enough: Martins Coggiola will remain in the hands of the Argentine judicial process, and the unresolved question is not whether he was extradited, but what evidence the court will rely on to test the allegations that have followed him for years.
