Tyler Duckworth was found dead on Aug. 11 in the bathroom of his Grand Forks, North Dakota apartment, and a newly obtained police report adds a stark detail: his body was found against the bathroom door as water from an overflowing bathtub leaked into the unit below. Even with that scene, police said there were no outward signs of trauma and no apparent signs of foul play.
The timing is what is driving fresh attention to the Tyler Duckworth cause of death search now. Duckworth had been seen the previous day, police were called to the apartment at about 11:45 a.m., and the official answer has not changed: the cause remains undetermined while an autopsy has been performed and toxicology testing is still pending. In other words, investigators have a scene, a timeline and a body, but not yet a medical finding that explains how he died.
That gap matters because the report leaves readers with two facts that do not neatly fit together. On one hand, the leaking water and overflowing bathtub point to a disturbing and messy scene. On the other, investigators did not find gunshot or stab wounds, and the preliminary investigation did not point to homicide. Police also said there were no circumstances at the apartment that suggested a suspicious death, which means the evidence seen so far does not support the most dramatic reading of the scene.
Duckworth, 44, was best known to TV viewers from The Real World: Key West and six seasons of The Challenge, where he won The Challenge: Cutthroat in 2010 and The Challenge: Rivals in 2011 with Johnny "Bananas" Devenanzio. He returned for All Stars 2 in 2021 and All Stars 3 the following year after being away from the franchise for roughly a decade. His final Instagram post came on Aug. 2, when he shared photographs from a July 31 Challenge Mania event in Minneapolis and wrote that the gathering brought together the "BEST of the BEST."
For now, the unanswered question is not whether police viewed the apartment scene as suspicious; they did not. It is whether the pending toxicology results will finally explain why Duckworth was found dead in that bathroom at all.
