Dyllón Burnside is joining Shrinking Season 4 in a recurring role, adding a new face to the Apple TV comedy just as the next run starts to take shape. Jillian Bell and Addie Weyrich are also coming aboard in recurring roles, though the characters they will play have not been revealed.
Burnside marked the casting news on Instagram on Thursday afternoon, writing that the moment “feels good for SO many reasons” and that he cannot wait for people to meet the character. For viewers searching shrinking season 4, the update is the clearest sign yet that the series is moving forward after Apple TV renewed it just before Season 3 premiered on Jan. 28 and then ran weekly through April 8.
The new names do not arrive in a vacuum. Bill Lawrence posted on X in April that there would be a Season 4 with “the EXACT same cast,” but the current lineup also includes Judith Light, Christian Slater and Karen Gillan as new additions, alongside Scott Foley, who was reported in October to be recurring as a therapy patient. That mix suggests the show is expanding even as it keeps the core ensemble intact.
Lawrence has also signaled that the next season may not look much like the last. In April, he said people should not be surprised if there is a time jump and it feels like the show is telling a completely different story, and Michael Urie said in June that Brian has a toddler now and that season four has jumped two years. Apple TV still has not set a premiere date, which leaves the cast announcements doing most of the work of keeping attention on the series for now.
What Burnside’s post makes clear is that the role is real, the season is active and the show is still building toward its next chapter. What remains unanswered is the simplest piece of all: who Burnside, Bell and Weyrich will play when Shrinking returns.
