Karol Nawrocki cut short his trip to Senegal on October 30 and ordered the presidential plane back to Poland after events outside the TK in Warsaw changed the day’s plan in midair. The aircraft had left Warsaw’s Okęcie with a delegation already on board, but the visit never reached Dakar.

The change became public around 18:00, when the pilot told journalists the plane was returning to Poland. Nawrocki then posted on X: “W takim momencie prezydent musi być w Polsce. Przerywam lot do Senegalu. Wracam”. By then, the plane was already over Spain, and Marek Sławiński said the journalists on board initially did not believe it because the president’s post appeared a little later.

The return matters because this was not a routine schedule change. The plane was expected to land at a military airport in Warsaw after 21:00, and no media appearance was planned after touchdown, leaving the sudden reversal as the day’s only public signal that the trip had been broken off.

The trigger was a fresh communication about Anna Korwin-Piotrowska taking over the leadership of the TK, which came as police units appeared outside the court to secure the area. That is the point where the story split into two versions: PiS and other right-wing groups described the actions around the TK as a “zamach stanu,” while police said it was there to ensure safety for everyone present, including TK judges.

For the delegation in the air, the practical effect was immediate. Sławiński said that once the pilot relayed the decision, everyone reached for their phones because they had not been following events in Poland while flying. What remains unanswered is not whether the trip stopped — it did — but how far the political situation in Warsaw had to move before a presidential visit to Senegal was turned around over Spain.
