Riley Green says his packed year has made dating difficult, and he does not sound like a man with much spare time to prove otherwise. The singer said his schedule has been so demanding that making a relationship work has become a battle.
That update is drawing attention now because Green is trying to do everything at once: he released a new album this year, has been touring, made his acting debut on Marshals and is coaching on The Voice. He also said he is in L.A. every day now, which only adds to the grind behind a life that already keeps him on the road much of the year.
Green put the matter plainly when he said he struggles to think there is a girl he can barely make his lifestyle work for. He said he thinks that is a battle for anyone in a demanding position, especially with a career that keeps a person away for 200-plus days a year. For Green, the problem is not just the work itself. It is the way the work spills into everything else.
Even so, he said he hopes to settle down one day. He also tried to sketch the kind of life he imagines after the pace eases, saying he likes taking women to the movies and would be open to a drive-in and a steak somewhere. It is the sort of easy plan that sounds simple until it runs into the reality of a calendar that seems built to keep moving.
He said he was busy before he started filming The Voice, but the new routine has put him in L.A. every day. That matters because the show airs Mondays at 8/7c on NBC, which makes his already crowded schedule even tighter. Green said he has not seen Carl, his dog, in a month, a small detail that makes the pace feel real in a way a career summary never could.
What keeps him steady, he said, is family. Green said he gets to FaceTime his nephew and watch him play sports, and he said his sisters taught him he is not right about everything. He added that there are some things not worth arguing about, and that his family makes the hectic lifestyle bearable.
So the answer to whether Green is ready to settle down is simple enough: he wants to, but not yet. For now, the road, the set and the studio are winning the schedule fight, and he is left hoping his life eventually slows down enough for dating to fit inside it.
