Netflix will launch Minimum Wage on Monday, October 26, and the first season will arrive as 28 episodes split into two batches of 14. The streaming version of the American High web series keeps its shortform rhythm, with the first batch running between 12 and 20 minutes apiece.

That release pattern is the reason the show is getting attention now. Viewers of Netflix will see a fast-moving comedy built for quick viewing, and the cast gives it a little extra weight because Randall Park is the biggest name attached.

Grace Reiter is part of the lineup, too, and she has already landed a featured slot on Saturday Night Live. She is joined by Aidan Micho, Hyde Healy, Julia Dicesare, Luke Burke, Ryan Micho and Tommy Armstrong, with Jeremy Garelick and Will Phelps serving as showrunners. For a series built on short episodes, that is a notable amount of talent packed into a compact format.

The format also brings its own problem. Short episodes can make a comedy feel brisk, but they can also make every extra beat more obvious, and Minimum Wage still frequently feels padded even when the running time stays low. That matters because the first batch the reviewer saw is only half the season, which means the real test is whether 14 more episodes can keep the pace from thinning out.

There is also a broader reason Netflix may be putting this out now. The short-episode model looked riskier after Quibi launched in 2020 and failed within eight months, but the streaming format never disappeared. Minimum Wage arrives alongside that idea of shortform TV returning in a more traditional home, and its 28-episode order suggests Netflix is willing to try a large-scale version of it. Whether the full season feels like a sharp run of quick hits or just a lot of small installments is the question that still hangs over the rollout.

What is clear is that Netflix is not treating Minimum Wage like a one-off experiment. It is starting with 14 episodes on October 26 and holding the rest for later, leaving the audience with a built-in pause before the season is complete.
