A 15-year-old in Tallahassee is facing 11 counts of attempted first-degree murder after a shooting near Bragg Memorial Stadium injured 12 people during Florida A&M University homecoming weekend. Police said the victims were not the intended targets, even as the case left six minors hurt and several people still in the hospital.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. near Perry and Manatee streets behind the stadium, where crowds were leaving a football celebration. Eleven people were shot, and one other person suffered an ankle injury while fleeing the gunfire. By Sunday morning, five people had been released and six remained hospitalized, including one in critical condition.

Marva Johnson said the school had reached out to injured members of the FAMU community to offer support. Florida A&M said the shooting happened near campus and that the university remained safe, even as the violence landed in the middle of one of the busiest weekends of the year for the school’s nearly 10,000 students.

Police said a fight broke out before the shooting among people who knew each other, but they have not said what sparked it. That gap matters because investigators also said none of the victims appear to have been the intended targets, which leaves open the possibility that more people were involved in the chain of events that led to the gunfire. TPD said tips and video from the community were vital in identifying the suspected shooter, and additional arrests are possible.

Lawrence Revell said what should have been a weekend of celebration became a night of fear and violence for victims and their families, and he said the work was far from over. That is where the case stands now: one juvenile is charged, the injuries are serious, and police are still trying to sort out who else was there when the shooting ripped through homecoming weekend.
