Nikki left The Great British Bake Off tent in Week 4 of the 17th series because of family reasons, turning Bread Week into more than just another round of bakes. Alison Hammond stepped in to judge Nikki’s cheesy pesto tear and share garlic bread as the competition carried on without her.
The exit came in Tuesday’s episode on Channel 4, where Tom was named Star Baker and Molly became the third baker to leave the series. Week 4 brought three bread-based challenges, including a signature garlic bread task and a showstopping bread display, with Paul Hollywood and Nigella Lawson judging the bakers as Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond presented the latest batch of 12 contestants.
That is the part viewers can see. What they cannot see is what “family reasons” meant, and the show did not say more than that. Nikki’s departure landed inside a week already defined by competition pressure, including a technical challenge described as one of the most disastrous Technicals in Bake Off history, so her exit stood out even in an episode full of setbacks.
The bigger effect is simple: the field narrowed again just as the series settled into its bread-themed test. Molly said goodbye with a measured note of relief and regret, while Paul said she struggled with the texture in Bread Week and Nigella said she had given the judges some beautiful bakes. Nikki’s reason for leaving remains the unresolved part of the episode, and for now that is the only part of her exit the broadcast was willing to name.
