Apple said customers can begin pre-ordering iPhone Duo on Friday, October 16, at 5 a.m. PT, giving shoppers a fixed time to move on a device the company is pitching as its biggest iPhone display ever in a foldable design. Orders will open on apple.com and in the Apple Store app.

The timing matters because this is the first moment buyers can lock in the phone and compare Apple’s purchase paths side by side. Apple is offering trade-in credit, leasing through Apple Upgrade, financing, carrier deals, and pickup or delivery options, so the first task for many customers will be deciding whether they want the lowest monthly bill, the shortest commitment, or the biggest carrier subsidy.

Apple is also leaning hard on the device itself. Opened, iPhone Duo is the thinnest iPhone ever, but the company is pairing that pitch with durability claims and a precision-engineered hinge, the kind of combination that usually signals how much work went into making a foldable feel like a normal phone. The inner display is 50 percent larger than the display on iPhone 18 Pro Max, while the outer screen measures 5.4 inches and delivers 90 percent of the screen area of iPhone 18 Pro in a pocketable shape.

Power and software are part of the pitch as well. iPhone Duo runs on A20 Pro, uses a dual-battery architecture for all-day battery life, and is built around iOS 27, which Apple says has been reimagined for the ways people use the device. Siri AI, powered by Apple Intelligence, is part of that push, along with support from Apple Specialists for customers who want help choosing between leasing, financing, or trade-in credit.

The math will be different for each buyer. Apple Trade In offers instant credit from $175 to $885 for eligible iPhone 13 or higher models, and that credit can be applied to monthly payments under Apple Upgrade, Apple Card Monthly Installments, or carrier deals. Apple Upgrade offers 12- and 24-month leasing options, with prices starting at $57.99 per month for a 24-month lease before taxes and trade-in credit. Eligible customers can also upgrade later, buy the phone outright at the end of the lease, or return it.

Carrier promotions raise the stakes for anyone carrying a newer phone. Apple says it can offer up to $1,200 in credit toward iPhone Duo when customers trade in iPhone 14 Pro Max or higher and activate with AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon. In the U.S., Apple Card customers using Apple Card Monthly Installments can pay over time at 0 percent APR and earn 3 percent Daily Cash back up front. The unanswered question is not whether buyers will have options; it is which path leaves them with the lowest real cost once trade-in value, monthly payments, and carrier credit are all folded together.

Apple has set the clock, but not every customer will face the same deal. The pre-order window opens Friday morning, and the best choice will come down to the device you are turning in and the payment plan you are willing to live with.
