Oaxaca prosecutors have arrested S.A.L. in Veracruz in a case tied to kidnapping aggravated and feminicide in la Cuenca. After the detention, the suspect was placed at the disposal of the competent authority in Oaxaca, which will decide his legal status.

The move matters now because the Fiscalía General del Estado de Oaxaca announced the arrest on 07 de octubre de 2026, bringing a cross-state search into focus years after the violence it is investigating. The case centers on a 2021 sequence in which the suspect allegedly picked up a minor on 22 de junio de 2021 and did not return him to his mother, before the child was recovered judicially on 29 de junio de 2021 in a home in colonia María Eugenia, in San Juan Bautista Tuxtepec.

That recovery did not close the case. Investigators later determined that a WhatsApp group called “Rápido y Fácil” received instructions linked to surveillance and the deprivation of liberty of the victim. On 30 de junio de 2021, the victim was watched at a home in a fraccionamiento de San Juan Bautista Tuxtepec, and on 1 de julio de 2021 the victim was followed, deprived of liberty and later killed. The body was found on bulevar Sostenes Bravo in San Juan Bautista Tuxtepec, and forensic findings determined the cause of death was intrathoracic hemorrhage from organ laceration caused by a sharp object.

What keeps this case from being a closed story is the standard that still governs it: S.A.L. was detained as a probable responsible person, not after a conviction. The evidence described by prosecutors points to a chain of acts that began with the child’s disappearance and ended with the victim’s death, but the judicial process now has to test that case in court. Oaxaca’s prosecutors said the work was carried out through the Fiscalía Especializada en Feminicidios and the Vicefiscalía Regional de la Cuenca, in coordination with the Fiscalía General del Estado de Veracruz.

For the family touched by the case, the arrest shifts the matter from pursuit to procedure. The next step is not a public declaration of guilt, but a legal determination in Oaxaca that will decide whether the evidence is enough to sustain the accusations of secuestro agravado and feminicidio.
