Bryan Seaver was reportedly dismissed on Sept. 16 from the security operation guarding Dolly Parton’s homes and other properties, and replacement guards had already taken over the Nashville sites. The notice said Seaver and his security companies were immediately out, while his personal interest in DP Dean Trust remained unchanged.
The firing landed just as public attention around Parton’s legacy was intensifying. On Sept. 20, Gavin Newsom signed a bill establishing Sept. 25 as Dolly Parton Day, and earlier this month the Metro Nashville Airport Authority Board of Commissioners voted to move ahead with a rule change that could allow Nashville International Airport to be renamed in her honor. For Seaver, the timing sharpened a private dispute into a public one.
Seaver is not an outside figure looking in. He previously served as Parton’s head of security, and last month he was the one who announced her death at age 80 in a video message posted to social media on behalf of the Parton and Owens families. Parton died on Aug. 25 at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville after being hospitalized four days earlier.
That history is part of why Seaver’s response has carried so much weight. In a statement, he said he and his teams were dismayed by what he described as unexpected and unexplained actions taken by Danny Nozell and Pinnacle Bank. He said they remained resolved to carry out Parton’s final directive to protect her family and would not be intimidated by actions they believed were taken in bad faith and with the intent to profit from the life of someone who gave so much.
The unresolved point is straightforward: the notice did not spell out why Seaver was removed, and the explanation he says he received has not been made public. What is clear is that control of Parton’s properties and business matters rests with DP Dean Trust, the security team has already changed, and Seaver remains tied to the trust even as he is shut out of the role that once put him closest to Parton’s most sensitive affairs.
