Caltrans will close all northbound U.S. 101 lanes and one southbound lane at the Hospital Curve in San Francisco from Friday, September 18 at 11 p.m. until Monday, September 21 at 6 a.m. Three southbound lanes will stay open during the weekend work.

The closure is the second of six weekend shutdowns tied to major pavement repair work on the Bayshore Freeway segment between Cesar Chavez and 17th St. Caltrans says crews will work 24/7 during each closure weekend as part of the Fab 4 Hospital Curve Rehabilitation Project, which began in Fall 2025.

Drivers using the corridor are being pushed toward route-specific detours, with separate maps prepared for travelers going to and from San Francisco International Airport and the SFO Rental Car Center, and for motorists coming from the peninsula and the South Bay who are heading toward the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge or San Francisco destinations. Caltrans is also directing motorists to sfhighwayprojects.com, 511.org, Caltrans QuickMap and the statewide road-condition numbers 1-800-472-7623 and 1-800-427-ROAD for updates.

The open lanes are the catch in an otherwise heavy weekend closure: all northbound traffic is being cut off, yet southbound drivers will still have three lanes to work with. That partial access should keep some movement going through the corridor, but it also means traffic will be squeezed into a narrower path while the repair crews work through the weekend.

The next shutdown is already on the calendar. On Friday, October 2 at 11 p.m., all southbound lanes between Cesar Chavez Street and 10th Street are set to close, with all lanes reopening by Monday, October 5 at 6 a.m. The final weekend closure is planned for Friday, October 16 at 11 p.m. through Monday, October 19 at 6 a.m., putting the rest of the project on a fixed countdown if the weather cooperates.
