A video posted online shows the arrest of a suspect in the Kraków shooting, with the man and a police officer exchanging gunfire at the intersection of Stradomska and Dietla streets. The suspect fell to the ground first, and the officer then fired several more shots before also losing balance and falling onto the asphalt.

The footage is drawing attention because police said the incident ended with the suspect in custody, injured and being taken to hospital, while the death toll climbed to five and several others were hurt, including two police officers. It is the clearest public view yet of how the confrontation unfolded in the city center.

Police first said one armed man drove by car near Rynku Głównego on Saturday at about 15:00 and opened fire at random people from the vehicle. That account later broadened into a larger emergency response, with Małopolska police saying the only known suspect was a citizen of the Republic of Poland and that the operation at the scene was still ongoing.

But the video and witness accounts also leave one part of the vehicle story unsettled. A witness told Wirtualna Polska that she saw the officer and the suspect aiming and shooting at each other, said the suspect was wearing military uniform and had a patch marked “Łysica,” and added that another person in the vehicle was reportedly injured. Police have not identified that person in the available statements, and they have said they were not looking for a second suspect.

For now, the key facts are already fixed: one suspect is in custody, two police officers were injured, five people are dead, and investigators are still trying to piece together motive and identity from a chaotic shooting in the center of Kraków.
