Chelsea Frei and Domhnall Gleeson’s romantic retreat in The Paper was filmed at Oak Canyon Ranch, the same location used for Prime Video’s Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat. The overlap surfaced after Alex Bonifer said his scenes in the episode were cut.
Bonifer posted on Instagram stories that he had been in an episode of The Paper but that his scenes did not make the final cut. He also said the episode was shot at Oak Canyon Ranch, where he had worked during Company Retreat, and that the room used for his character matched the one he lived in while filming that project.
That matters because “Weekend Ned” is built around Ned and Mare trying to pull off a romantic getaway, with Mare played by Chelsea Frei and Ned played by Domhnall Gleeson. The location choice gives the episode a neat piece of production trivia: the same ranch staged two different onscreen retreats, one for The Paper and one for Company Retreat.
The cut also leaves one small mystery hanging. Bonifer said he had scenes in the episode, and the trailer tag appears to point to a character named Taylor, but viewers never got to meet him in the final version. In a show set in Toledo, Ohio but filmed out of Los Angeles, that kind of offscreen change can be the difference between a quick cameo and a part that disappears entirely.
So the answer is simple enough: Chelsea Frei’s Mare did get her retreat scene, but Alex Bonifer did not. What viewers saw was the finished version of “Weekend Ned,” and what they did not see was the character work that was cut before the episode reached the screen.
