The White House rushed to Ellie Acra’s defense on Sunday after Aaron Rupar posted a clip of her directing photographers away from Donald Trump and accused the press wrangler of “literally shoving” the media aside. The response turned a routine airport-style press movement into a fresh fight between the White House and one of its most persistent online critics.
Rupar posted on X on Sunday afternoon that “another [sic] blonde Trump flunkie starts literally shoving photographers away from Trump,” attaching footage that showed Acra telling the press to leave the area underneath the wing of the plane. The White House fired back that she was “doing her job — and doing it well,” then went after Rupar as “gutter trash” in his 40s and called him a “sick freak.”
That exchange matters because it did not come out of nowhere. For weeks, Rupar and other online leftists had been hinting without evidence that Natalie Harp and Trump were involved in an inappropriate relationship, and on Saturday he posted another photo of Harp with the line, “Look who made the trip to Ireland!” By Sunday, the argument had shifted from gossip about Harp to a direct clash over Acra, a White House press wrangler whose job is to herd reporters to and from designated areas while the president is moving.
That is the friction in the clip: Rupar framed Acra as if she were physically pushing photographers, while the footage shows her doing what press wranglers are expected to do, clearing the media from the path and keeping the president on schedule. The White House also made a point of mocking Rupar’s age, and he responded that the account was attacking him for a second straight day and driving a flood of harassing and threatening messages.
For now, the episode has no formal next step attached to it. What it does show is how quickly a standard piece of press handling on Trump’s trip to Ireland can be turned into a personal fight online, with Ellie Acra drawn into the center and the White House choosing not just to defend her, but to hit back hard.
