Marvelous has revealed Eternal Anima, a new RPG that is now set to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on March 4, 2027. The game arrives with a look that echoes HD-2D, but it is framed as Marvelous’s own take on that style rather than a direct copy.
That date is the reason the game is drawing attention now. For players tracking Nintendo Switch 2 releases, Eternal Anima is no longer just a name attached to a teaser; it has a release day and a platform, which is the sort of detail that turns a reveal into a real calendar item.
The world behind it is bleak by design. Eternal Anima takes place in a world covered almost entirely by ocean, where humanity has given up its aspirations and wisdom, and the only city left standing is Urbis Ale. Inside it, there is only one rule: never strive for a better tomorrow. That makes Wade, the game’s protagonist, an immediate problem. He uses a mysterious power to relive memories of the past, discovers a world beyond the city lines, and is branded a heretic for it.
The trailer pushes that idea further by tying memory itself to power. Inheriting the memories of the world lets players acquire the abilities of heroes past, while the combat is turn-based and built around reading the field before the enemy moves. Players can peer into the future of combat to sense what is coming, then disrupt an enemy’s next move and take fate into their own hands. The story also reaches back through time as Wade seeks hidden truths, which suggests the game is more interested in what was lost than in what can be built next.
What Marvelous has not yet spelled out is how that combat will work from turn to turn, or how Wade’s memory power operates in practice. Those are the details that will decide whether Eternal Anima’s systems feel clever or merely decorative. For now, the confirmed takeaway is simpler: the game has a date, a platform, and a premise built around memory, forbidden knowledge and a city that has outlawed hope.
