Fourteen people were taken to a local hospital Friday night during The Chainsmokers concert in San Jose, after emergency crews were called to Discovery Meadow for multiple people needing medical attention. The incident unfolded as the concert was underway and ended later that night.
The San Jose Fire Department first responded at about 8:23 p.m. to multiple calls describing more than a dozen patients. Police said paramedics treated some people at the park, and at least 10 concertgoers were taken to the hospital before the count was later put at 14.
That number matters because it shows how quickly a live music event can shift from routine crowd management to a medical response. The concert began at 5 p.m., giving responders only a few hours before the calls started coming in.
Officials said several of the cases involved alcohol or drug problems at Discovery Meadow. That detail helps explain why the calls clustered, but it also leaves one point unsettled: police gave an initial figure of at least 10 hospital transports, while the San Jose Fire Department said in a Saturday morning post on X that 14 people had been taken to a local hospital.
The difference may come down to timing. The first count captured the scene on Friday night, while the later update appears to have reflected the full tally after crews finished working through the cases. The San Jose Fire Department said the incident wrapped up by 10:34 p.m., closing out a night that began with music and ended with a medical response at the park.
