Borderlands 4 is getting a new Vault Hunter on September 10, and Loveless the Hacker is coming in as paid DLC. Gearbox has also put her in the spotlight in the latest Gearbox DevCast episode, giving players a first close look at the character behind the update.
That matters because Loveless is not just another add-on fighter. Andrew Reiner and April Johnson spoke with Game Designer Ryan Bailey, who crafted her Action Skills and Trait designs, and the setup gives her a clear combat identity built around Corrosive and Radiation damage. She is described as an ex-Anshin hacker-turned-assassin, with a psyche tied to a digital virus of her own creation that can digistruct into a physical Wyrm form. In other words, the character is framed as highly advanced, but she still turns that edge into simple combat rhythm: her RAM trait fills when she lands Critical Hits or inflicts Status Effects, and when the bar is full her next melee attack becomes Empowered, consuming the whole meter.
The skill kit around that system is broad. Loveless can throw Plague Star shuriken, cloak herself and spawn a decoy with Visual Paradox Nexus, sic her Malignant Construct on targets, and call on a Wyrm companion that uses tail whips and toxic breath. Her Action Skills are built around low-cooldown Functions and high-impact Executables, which points to a loop of quick pressure followed by bigger finishers rather than one long, static rotation. She also wields Techno-Kagi claws, which keeps the melee side of the design tied to the RAM payoff.
The unresolved question is not whether Loveless is arriving, but how far her three skill trees can stretch that core idea in play. The broad outline is already clear, yet the exact balance between Functions, Executables and RAM is still what players will be watching as the release date gets closer. The new Loveless Character Short, Uncontainable, is part of that buildout, and Version 1.10 will also introduce Story Pack 2: FL4K and the Last Resort and Bounty Pack 5: Amara and the Vile Shadows, both available for individual purchase when September 10 lands.
