Food Network is launching SWEET DECEIT on Monday, October 5, with Josh Peck hosting a new baking game show built around a simple but ruthless test: teams have to bite into objects and decide whether they are cake.

The series starts at 10pm ET/PT with back-to-back episodes, and the next-day stream on HBO Max gives the premiere a second life beyond cable. That timing matters because Food Network is not just testing a one-off gimmick; it is opening a fall run that is designed to carry through Halloween and into the holidays.

Peck is the face of that rollout. He said SWEET DECEIT has “all my favorite things: food, fun, and deception,” and called it “a must watch for the whole family.” He also said the craftsmanship behind the edible creations was unlike anything he had ever seen, adding that watching teams “literally put their money where their mouths are” made every reveal a blast. For a host, that is more than a plug. It is a sign the show is leaning hard into the moment when a glossy object in plain sight turns out to be dessert.

That is the hook on which the entire competition hangs. Teams of three competitors move through four rounds, searching real-world locations for hyper-realistic sweets hidden in plain sight. The challenge is visual at first, but it becomes tactile when the teams have to prove their guesses by biting into the sweets. The prize reaches up to $12,000, so each round matters, and each mistaken bite can cost more than embarrassment.

Food Network has built the format around that reveal. The series features a rotating group of elite cake artists, including Jose Barajas, Jonny “Jonny Cakes” Manganello, Andrew Fuller, Ashley Holt, April Julian and Liz Marek, all making edible illusions for the contestants to hunt down. Betsy Ayala said the show is a funny and highly visual addition to the network’s baking lineup, and said Peck is the right host to bring humor to every reveal while viewers guess along from home.

The season is also bigger than a single premiere night. SWEET DECEIT: TRICK OR TREAT begins the same day with eight double-stacked Halloween-themed episodes, while SWEET DECEIT: HOLIDAY starts on Monday, November 16, with eight double-stacked episodes of its own. Across the run, the settings shift from spooky and sinister to festive and jolly, with locations that include haunted houses, a movie set morgue, a kindergarten classroom Halloween party, the Magic Castle, a cozy cabin, a festive ice rink and Santa’s workshop.

What Food Network has not spelled out is the full size of the season beyond those two eight-episode blocks, which leaves the total episode count open even as the launch is locked in. For now, the clearest fact is the one Peck keeps returning to: this is a show built to be watched, laughed at and, in the end, bitten into.
