Vanessa Trump spent a long day helping Kai Trump settle into her first college apartment as the 18-year-old began school at the University of Miami. The move, which Kai described as a back-to-school push with her mother, came with shopping runs, furniture mix-ups and a lot of waiting.
Kai wrote that the pair spent HOURS shopping for everything she could need for the apartment and getting ready for a new chapter of college life. She also posted a caption reading, "Back-to-school shopping with Mom!" and said her mother was there to do it all with her. Vanessa, for her part, said she was "totally exhausted" from going back and forth to the apartment and moving everything, while Kai said she had "kind of messed up the furniture delivery," which sent her mother driving to Miami yesterday.
Vanessa said the trip was to wait for three deliveries, and that the day was not exactly smooth. "It was okay, it was rush hour too, so it was fun times," she said before adding, "What we do for our children, right?" She also said Kai needed bedding, cleaning supplies, cooking utensils and more, but not clothes. "She already has clothes. I'm not buying clothes. She could open up a clothing store with all the clothes she has," Vanessa said.
The move marks a clear turn in Kai's life after she graduated from high school earlier this year and started college in Miami. It also lands in the middle of a difficult period for Vanessa, who revealed earlier this year that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and said in May that she was working closely with her medical team on a treatment plan. The following month, she said she was recovering from surgery and about to enter the second stage of treatment.
That is what gives the move its weight: a parent helping a child start college while carrying her own health burden in public. Kai has continued to share college updates on YouTube and Instagram, including a post inviting followers to see her first week of school and the move-in process. For now, the immediate next step is simple enough. The apartment has to become home, and the first week of classes has to unfold around it.
