That is the part that could tilt Sunday’s game beyond the standings. Atlanta had already locked up a playoff berth, but the Dream were coming off a surprising double-digit home loss to the Portland Fire while trying to improve their seeding, which made the margin for error smaller even before the opening tip. For Minnesota, the task was simpler on paper: finish the push for the top seed. For Atlanta, the path ran through a team that already knew how to punish a slip.
If the Lynx finish the job, they take the best regular-season position into the postseason. If the Dream keep climbing, they can still turn a playoff berth into a better first-round setup. Either way, Sunday afternoon was one of those late-season games that can shape the bracket before the bracket is even set.
