That timing matters because the event is expected to set the schedule for the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and Apple’s first foldable, while the base iPhone 18 is not expected until spring 2027. For readers watching the calendar, this is the point where the next product cycle stops being a rumor and becomes a date.
Zac Hall said Apple has announced its annual iPhone event two weeks in advance for four consecutive years, which is why Aug. 26 stands out as the strongest bet. A Tuesday, Aug. 25 announcement would still fit Apple’s pattern, but it would stretch the gap to 15 days instead of holding to the recent 14-day rhythm. On that math alone, the later date looks cleaner.
MacRumors said Wednesday, Sept. 9 remains the most likely keynote date until proven otherwise. Mark Gurman has separately said the foldable iPhone is set to be introduced at a launch event on or around Sept. 9, which keeps that week at the center of the launch calendar. The combination of those two forecasts is why the market is treating early September as the likely moment Apple makes the next big move.
There is, however, another path. Apple could wait until Tuesday, Sept. 15 to hold the event, which would push pre-orders to Friday, Sept. 18 and the release to Friday, Sept. 25. That later schedule would still fit a September launch, but it would change the tempo of the rollout and leave buyers waiting longer for the first wave of hardware.
The case for the earlier date is simple: Apple has never held an iPhone event on the day after Labor Day, and the company has repeatedly used a two-week lead time when sending out its invitations. That leaves a narrow window now, with Aug. 25 and Aug. 26 as the real decision points and Sept. 9 as the date most observers are still counting toward.
So the next concrete milestone is not the keynote itself but the invitation. If Apple moves on Aug. 25 or Aug. 26, the rest of the calendar falls into place fast; if it waits until Sept. 15, the whole launch cycle slides back with it. Either way, the company is close to showing whether this year’s September event belongs to the iPhone 18 Pro line, the foldable, or a schedule no one has quite pinned down yet.
