Fortnite will go down for maintenance on Wednesday night, with servers set to shut off at 11 pm Pacific Time, or 2 am Eastern Time on Thursday. Epic Games expects the outage to last around four hours as the game moves into the Season 4 update.

That is why players are checking now on how long will Fortnite be down. Anyone trying to finish a run before the servers go dark has a narrow window, and the return time is already close enough to plan around. The game is expected to be back up and running by Thursday morning.

The maintenance is tied to Fortnite Chapter 7, Season 4, which is carrying the slogan “Break the rules, change the game.” It also comes with a new crossover lineup that includes Sonic the Hedgehog, Pac-Man, Crash Bandicoot, Ryu, Master Chief, Spyro the Dragon, Lara Croft, Joker, Morgana, Sora, the KEyblade, Mega Man, and Geralt of Rivia. Green Hill Zone is also being shown as a crossover location, with Sonic loops, rings and checkerboard terrain.

The schedule is clear, but the exact finish is not locked in. Epic Games has said servers could come back earlier or later than the estimated four-hour window, which means the shutdown may end up shorter or longer than players expect. That leaves Thursday morning as the safe target, not a guarantee down to the minute.

The update also follows the August 15 “Unstable” Story Moment, when Doctor Slone tried to stabilize the damaged Zero Point and Geno hacked the stabilizer, overwhelmed her controls and stole it. The new season is meant to push that plot forward by overriding Geno’s system and taking back the Island, while Calamari Canyon, Frosted Flats and Sinister Strip are reportedly leaving the map. For players, the answer today is simple: Fortnite is going offline tonight, and the best estimate is that it will stay down for about four hours.
