Starbucks is bringing back the Unicorn Frappuccino on Saturday, August 15, giving the brightly colored drink a weekend-only return after its original 2017 run lasted no more than five days. The comeback lands as a short burst, not a permanent menu change, and that makes the timing the story: people who missed the first version will have one narrow window to try it again.

The drink itself is part dessert, part spectacle. It mixes mango cream with a tangy blue drizzle and is finished with whipped cream and a pink and blue topping, the kind of look that helped turn it into an internet object the first time around. During that initial run, it drew 150,000 posts on Instagram and spread across Twitter, Snapchat and Facebook, the kind of attention Starbucks rarely gets from one limited-time item.

That return also revives an old split in the reaction to the drink. On Reddit, one alleged Starbucks employee wrote, “I say this as your friend, not your barista. It is not good,” while another said, “I had it when it initially launched in 2017 and gave it another try during training. Still belongs in the trash.” A separate alleged barista, posting in a now-deleted X message shared on Facebook, said, “I have never made so many Frappuccinos in my entire life. My hands are completely sticky. I have unicorn crap all in my hair, on my nose,” and added, “I have never been so stressed out in my entire life.”

That friction is part of why the Unicorn Frappuccino still stands out years later. It was always meant to be limited, and its first run became a major internet sensation precisely because it did not stay around long. What Starbucks is offering now is another short-lived chance to buy the drink, but not a full revival, and the company has not said whether the returning version is identical to the 2017 recipe or adjusted in any way.

For now, the practical answer is simple: the drink returns Saturday and appears to be available only for the weekend. Anyone hoping to see whether the Unicorn Frappuccino still has the same pull will need to act fast, because the brief run is the point.
