Aldi lowered prices on nearly one-third of its everyday in-store assortment starting September 23 and said the lower tags will stay in place nationwide through at least November 3. The move reaches from produce to chicken and is meant to carry shoppers through the fall buying season.
The chain says the cuts could save shoppers a combined $86 million this season, a figure that helps explain why the change matters now. Honeycrisp apples are marked at $1.99 per pound, 35 percent below last year and the lowest everyday price Aldi says it has posted on them in more than five years. Kirkwood chicken breast family packs are also dropping to $1.99 per pound, which Aldi says is its lowest everyday price on that item since 2022.
The price cuts are concentrated in the parts of the store that tend to move with the season. Autumncrisp grapes, Bartlett pears, Brussels sprouts, butternut squash, spaghetti squash, fresh herbs, garlic, French beans, apples and potatoes are among the items getting cheaper, alongside other produce and lean proteins. That mix is a clear signal that Aldi is using a broad fall reset rather than a narrow sale on a few headline items.
The company is also pushing the message that the cuts are not a departure from its usual approach. Scott Patton said in a statement that value is a year-round promise, not a promotion, and added that the company keeps looking for ways to run more efficiently so it can pass along savings. That sits beside a sharper reality: Aldi says it already has the lowest prices of any national grocery store, yet it is still trimming prices again as grocery inflation and competition pressure continue to shape shopping lists.
What is not clear is how wide the rest of the discount list runs beyond the examples Aldi named, or how the company arrived at the $86 million seasonal savings estimate. Even so, the direction is plain. With more than 2,600 U.S. stores and an estimated $10.2 billion in shopper savings already attached to its pricing claims, Aldi is betting that a larger, time-limited cut will pull more traffic now and keep its value message in front of shoppers through early November.
