Aspyr has released The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition, bringing the 2011 action RPG back with performance and control updates. The remastered game is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG.
The launch gives the game a new run on current hardware at a price of $19.99, with a 10% discount available through August 24. For players deciding whether to jump in now, that cuts the cost to $17.99 during the launch window, before the price returns to the regular rate.
The update is not just a visual pass. It adds UI and UX improvements, refined targeting, autosave, gyro support and 60 FPS, while also supporting online co-op for up to three players and local split-screen for two. That keeps the remaster close to the shape of the original while making it easier to play on modern systems.
But the upgrade is not the same on every platform. Nintendo Switch users get the remaster, yet local co-op and 60 FPS are not supported there, which leaves one of the most flexible versions with a smaller feature set than the others. Nintendo Switch players still get the core release, but the tradeoff is built into the version itself.
A Nintendo EU eShop launch is scheduled for August 18, 2026, which means the game is not arriving everywhere on the same timetable. The staggered rollout leaves Nintendo EU waiting for a separate release date even as the wider launch is already live, and that is the detail players checking availability need to know before they buy.
