Elizabeth Waddell was reported missing in Grenada after she left her Airbnb for a swim near Grand Anse Beach, and her family and police are now trying to piece together what happened in the minutes after she walked away. The 44-year-old was last seen around 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, in the Grand Anse Beach area of St. George’s.
The report has drawn in Cailen Waddell, who has been in Grenada with his daughter since Friday to help with the search. He and Elizabeth Waddell had traveled to the island with a friend, and the friend later called to say she was missing after noticing she had not come back. That is why people searching for Elizabeth Waddell Grenada are focusing so sharply on the last known sighting, not on a broader disappearance that began somewhere else.
Amanda Romano-Harmon said the couple had gone to Grenada to vacation and sightsee, and that Elizabeth Waddell loved to travel and hike. She said the family had been close for years and that the search has been heavy on everyone involved. Waddell is the founder of Art of Movement Physical Therapy and, according to her website, has a doctorate in physical therapy from UNC-Chapel Hill.
What makes this case hard to close is the gap between the last sighting and the few clues left behind. Romano-Harmon said Elizabeth Waddell had her swimsuit on and stepped outside the Airbnb, where a pool overlooked the bay. Her friend was taking an online course, looked up later and did not see her, then found her towel down on the pier. That points to a possible swim, but it does not confirm what happened after she left the property or whether she entered the water at all.
The Royal Grenada Police Force said it has been in contact with fishermen, boat operators and residents along the southern coastline, and it asked anyone with tips to contact police. For now, there is no confirmed trace of Waddell after the morning she was last seen, and the search is still centered on one unanswered question: what happened between the Airbnb and the shoreline.
