Police are investigating a hit and run after a cyclist was struck by a car on High Street in Knaresborough around 12.30pm on Thursday, May 21. The vehicle and the cyclist were both believed to have been travelling up the street towards the town centre when the collision happened.
North Yorkshire Police said the car collided with the cyclist and knocked him off his bike. The ambulance attended to support the cyclist with his injuries, which were not serious, while officers dealt with the scene. The road was partially closed for one hour during the investigation and while the cyclist’s injuries were treated.
The suspected vehicle was described as either a maroon Ford Fiesta or Focus, and police have not publicly identified the driver. That leaves the case hinging on what people saw before and during the collision, and on any dashcam footage that may have captured the car in the moments leading up to it.
A police spokesperson said officers are appealing for witnesses to the collision, anyone who may have seen the vehicle before the crash, or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to get in touch. People with information have been asked to email george.sunderland@ or call North Yorkshire Police on 101 and ask for George Sunderland, quoting reference 12260092192.
The details point to a broad daylight collision on one of Knaresborough’s main streets, followed by a quick police response and a limited closure, but the central gap remains the same: who was driving the car that left the cyclist behind. Until someone comes forward with the vehicle’s movements or the driver is identified, the investigation will depend on witnesses who were there and footage that may already exist.
