Police in North Yorkshire closed the A165 for about four hours on Sunday after two cars collided at the entrance to Primrose Valley Holiday Park near Filey, sending the occupants of both vehicles to hospital for treatment.
The crash happened at about 10.38am on 7 June, when a white Hyundai i10 and a grey Peugeot 5008 collided. The closure gave officers time to examine the scene, recover the vehicles and treat spillages on the road.
The scale of the disruption matters as much as the collision itself. For much of the late morning and early afternoon, traffic on a route used by drivers heading through the Filey area was stopped while investigators worked around the damaged cars and the spillages left behind.
Police have not said what caused the collision, and they have not given any details on how serious the injuries were. That leaves the key question unanswered: why the Hyundai and Peugeot came together at the park entrance in the first place.
North Yorkshire Police is now asking for witnesses, anyone who saw either vehicle before the crash, or drivers with dashcam footage to come forward. For officers, that material may be the best chance of pinning down how a Sunday morning journey to a holiday park ended with hospital treatment and a closed road.
