Two left lanes of Interstate 64 Westbound reopened after a crash near the 10.5 mile marker by the Hal Green interchange in Cabell County, W.Va., following a report just after 3 p.m. on Wednesday. The scene later cleared, but drivers were still being told to expect delays in the area.
The crash involved one vehicle that hydroplaned and went off course before coming to a stop, closing the two left lanes while crews dealt with the scene. Once the roadway was cleared, traffic began moving again on the westbound side of I-64.
Hydroplaning can turn a routine stretch of interstate into a sudden hazard, especially when rain leaves water sitting on the pavement. In this case, the disruption was brief, but it was enough to slow travel on a busy westbound route through Cabell County during the afternoon commute.
The immediate concern for drivers now is the lingering backup that can follow even after lanes reopen. With the left lanes back in service, the road itself is moving again, but traffic in the area may take longer to settle.
