Thai Princess Bajrakitiyabha’s condition has worsened, the Royal Palace said on Thursday, after doctors found multiple infections affecting several organs and were unable to contain her irregular heart rate. The 47-year-old princess has been in a coma since 2022.
The palace said doctors discovered a stomach infection in April, and that it led to inflammation in her intestines, a drop in blood pressure and then an irregular heartbeat. She has been given medicine, while medical devices have been used to support her lungs and kidneys.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha has been receiving treatment for years, but the palace said her health has continued to decline despite the medicine and devices already in use. Doctors will continue to closely monitor her condition and provide further treatment.
The latest update leaves no room for optimism: the princess remains in a prolonged coma, her condition is getting worse, and the care teams are still trying to stabilize organs that have already been pushed past one infection after another.
