Alyssa Farah Griffin used Tuesday’s Democratic wins to declare that Donald Trump’s grip on MAGA was slipping fast. On The View, she said the blue wave was “the beginning of the end of the MAGA movement” and added, “Today, Donald Trump is officially a lame duck president.”
The remark landed because it came not as a distant analysis but as a live verdict from a former Trump aide turned on-air critic. Griffin said the result was “a total and complete repudiation of Donald Trump’s presidency and his policies,” then cast herself as “a resistance Republican who’s been waiting for this moment,” saying she was ready for “new leadership.”
Behar pushed the moment into joke territory by asking, “Can we call him ‘Lame Donald Duck?’” and Whoopi Goldberg answered with “Quack, quack.” Ana Navarro added that voters “Grabbed him by the ballot box,” and later said, “we don’t storm the Capitol; we storm the polls,” turning the segment into a celebration of Democratic wins and a broadside against Trump’s side of the aisle.
That celebration carried extra weight because the losses were tied to candidates Trump had personally backed, and the blowback was already reaching inside his orbit. A White House insider said Trump was angry, watched the results with Natalie Harp and sat “watching barely uttering a word and paralyzed into silence.”
There was also a larger contradiction in the air. Griffin said the country had rejected Trump’s agenda, but the election losses came after a campaign effort that included almost $400 million from Elon Musk aimed at those same candidates. Goldberg said that meant voters were not for sale, arguing the night showed “we cannot be bought” and that “You can spend billions of dollars throwing money at people, and it didn't matter worth a damn.”
For now, the bluntest reading of the night is that Trump’s opponents on The View see the election as more than a bad Tuesday. They see it as a public unraveling. Whether Trump treats it that way, or keeps the same circle around him and the same candidates, is the question the segment left hanging.
