Liz Truss was pictured at a dinner at Mar-a-Lago on the night Donald Trump's Republicans were wiped out in the 2026 Midterm Elections. The former British prime minister, who lasted just 49 days in No 10, smiled for a picture while holding up a copy of Dominik Tarczyński's book.
Her appearance at the Palm Beach resort came as Democrats took over both the Senate and the House, turning the night into a political rout for Trump’s camp. Truss posted the image with the caption, “Be Like Poland! Backing Dominik Tarczyński and his fellow freedom fighters!” and tagged the resort in Florida.
Tarczyński was at the same table, brandishing his own copy of his book. He had been banned from entering the United Kingdom earlier this year to speak at a Tommy Robinson rally, and Truss branded the Home Office decision “shocking.”
The dinner also widened the odd contrast around Truss herself. She has tried to recast the story of her brief premiership, telling Sky News on Tuesday, “It wasn't the mini budget that went wrong,” and blaming the spike in the gilt market rather than her £45 billion spree of unfunded tax cuts. Asked how much responsibility she took for the borrowing shock, she replied: “Not very much is the answer.”
That argument remains at the heart of the row over her 2022 downfall, when the economic turmoil that followed her mini budget helped drive her out after 49 days in office. What is not answered by the picture is why she was there at all, on that night, beside Trump devotees at a table where the political fallout was already clear.
