Sean Casten claimed victory Tuesday night in the 6th District congressional race, adding another win to a run that has kept the Downers Grove Democrat in office through five straight tries. The result was still unofficial, but he was ahead of Niki Conforti in both Cook County and DuPage County as votes were counted.
That is why people are searching DuPage County election results 2026 now: the race has a clear winner, but the numbers are not yet final. In Cook County, Casten held a 59.98% to 40.02% lead over Conforti with 98% of precincts reporting and 109,219 ballots cast. In DuPage County, he led 65.04% to 34.96% with 123,625 votes cast.
Casten’s margin was broad enough to settle the contest on election night, even if the paperwork is not finished. In a statement after the race, he said democracy is a participatory sport and argued that Americans have kept that experiment alive for 250 years by showing up to vote. He also said the last two years had brought attacks on that experiment, tarnished institutions, rising living costs and White House politics that favored the wealthy over working people.
Conforti, who worked in health care and was an energy consultant, went into the night feeling strong. The numbers never backed that feeling in the two counties that were still driving the count, and Casten kept a lead in both places from early returns through the close of counting. The district itself spans parts of southwest and west suburban communities, which is why the Cook and DuPage tallies matter so much when the race is tight.
The results will become official only after county ratification in the coming weeks, which means the next step is administrative rather than political. Casten is expected to keep the seat, but the district will not have a final certified result until the counties finish their review and make the ballots official.
