The Kansas City Chiefs released CB Kader Kohou from their practice squad, according to the NFL’s Official Transaction Wire. It is the latest turn in a brief run with Kansas City that ended almost as soon as it had resumed.
The move matters because Kohou was not a fringe name from nowhere. He is 27, and he arrived in the NFL with the Dolphins in 2022 as an unrestricted free agent out of Texas A&M-Commerce before agreeing to a three-year rookie contract with Miami. He spent that entire stretch with the Dolphins, then signed with the Chiefs this offseason before being let go after camp.
Kohou’s 2024 season gives the release more weight. He played in 15 games for the Dolphins and finished with 45 tackles, along with a fumble recovery, a forced fumble, two interceptions and eight pass defenses. Kansas City then brought him back onto the practice squad shortly after cutdowns, which made the release less like a routine trim and more like the club changed course twice on the same player.
That is the piece that hangs over the transaction. The Chiefs did not publicly explain why they moved on after re-signing him to the practice squad, and the transaction wire gives no detail beyond the release itself. For Kohou, the immediate question is no longer where he fit in Kansas City, but whether another team sees enough in his Dolphins tape to make the next call. The roster spot in Kansas City is gone, and his next landing place is still open.
