Will Richard is back on the bench for Monday's game against the Nuggets after making his first start of the season Saturday. The lineup shift sends him from the opening group straight back into a reserve role for the matchup.

Danny Emerman of SFStandard.com reported the change, which comes after Richard was asked to start Saturday because three members of the usual starting five were sidelined. That temporary promotion gave him a different look at the role, but it did not last beyond one game.

Richard's case is rooted in what he had already done in smaller minutes. In the season opener, he came off the bench and produced eight points and five rebounds in 20 minutes, a useful line for a player still carving out his place. He was held scoreless in three minutes Friday night against Memphis, then moved into the starting lineup the next day when the roster picture changed around him.

That is why Monday matters. The starting assignment was never a permanent change, and his return to the bench makes that clear. Richard's role against the Nuggets is now the one he had before Saturday: a reserve who can be called on for minutes, scoring and energy rather than a spot in the first five.

For now, the unanswered piece is not whether Richard starts again. It is how often he can turn these short windows into something larger once the usual starting group is available.
