Who Is Running For President In 2026? Harris Returns to Campaign Trail

Kamala Harris returned to the campaign trail on Thursday at Clark Atlanta University, where she was greeted like a rockstar and told students not to let anyone take their power away. The appearance put her back in front of a Democratic audience just as attention is shifting toward the 2028 presidential race and the question of whether she will try again for the White House.

That is why searches for who is running for president in 2026 are starting to overlap with Harris, even though the next presidential election is still years away. She has not ruled out another run for the Democratic nomination, and her public appearances are being watched as more than a routine stop. After losing the 2024 presidential election, Harris has spent the last month recultivating relationships by showing up for Democratic candidates in places that know her well and places that do not.

Her recent schedule has taken her from Mississippi to Nevada to Wisconsin and New Hampshire. She appeared at a high school rally in Columbus, Mississippi, and then took part in a rural healthcare roundtable in Clarksdale, Mississippi, earlier this month. She also campaigned for Scott Colom in Mississippi, met with unionized culinary workers in Las Vegas in October, backed David Crowley in Wisconsin, campaigned for Chris Pappas in New Hampshire and returned to Michigan in September to support Abdul El-Sayed.

The Atlanta stop carried extra weight because Harris was not speaking to a distant crowd. Sanaiya Archer, a student at the school, called her a “big sister general” and said she could see herself in Harris. Archer said it mattered to see a Black woman on a presidential scale who had gone to an HBCU, the same world she is in now. Harris used the stage to lean into that connection, telling the audience, “I’ve come here to remind you, don’t ever let anybody take your power from you.”

She followed with a sharper line: “Don’t ever let anybody tell you who you are. You tell them who you are!” The message landed in a political moment that is still unsettled. Donald Trump’s return left Democrats reeling again, and the party has not settled on who should lead it back into power. Harris is acting like someone still in the game, but she is also leaving the door open, and that is what keeps the next move so closely watched.

For now, the answer to whether Harris will actually run again is simple: she has not said no. That is enough to keep her in the frame, enough to keep her supporters listening, and enough to make every campaign stop look like more than a favor for someone else.
