Marathón is through to the next Copa de Campeones de la Concacaf after holding Alianza FC to a 0-0 draw at the Estadio Jorge “Mágico” González and protecting the 2-1 lead it built in San Pedro Sula. The result closed out the Marathon Alliance on a one-goal aggregate margin and sent Marathón onward.
The second leg mattered because the tie was still live when the teams walked out in El Salvador. Marathón had to defend a narrow advantage, and Alianza FC needed a goal to flip the series. That pressure showed early, with Osorio testing Jonathan Rougier with a header near the right post in the 6th minute, Carlos Pérez sending a shot over the bar in the 11th, and Carlos Argueta leaving in the 18th minute because of physical discomfort before Yeison Mejía came on.
Alianza FC kept pushing. Javier Rivera tried a header in the 26th minute, Mier sent a cross-field shot close in the 31st, and Damián Ramírez forced Gonzáles into a save in the 55th. Marathón never found a goal of its own, but it did enough to stay in front across the two legs and survive the kind of pressure that can undo a first-leg edge in a heartbeat.
The final minutes carried the sharpest warning. Marathón blocked a loose-ball shot after a corner in the 76th minute, then Juan Monteagudo intercepted a dangerous cross two minutes later just as Nicolás Messiniti was preparing to head the ball. Those moments summed up the evening: Alianza FC kept coming, but Marathón kept answering at the back.
For Diego Vázquez, the result was not enough to extend the night, and for Alianza FC it was a hard exit after failing to erase the deficit from the first leg. Marathón now moves into the next edition of the Copa de Campeones de la Concacaf, while the only unresolved piece is who it will face when the bracket takes shape.
