RB Leipzig has sent residents around the Red Bull Arena a letter with a discount code for its next Bundesliga home matches against FC Augsburg and FSV Mainz 05. The club is trying to pull more people into the stadium for two games whose advance sales have been running more than sluggishly.
The mailing frames the offer as a response to the burdens that matchdays bring to people living nearby. It thanked residents for their understanding and support, and invited them, along with family and friends, to a home match against FC Augsburg or FSV Mainz 05 at an exclusive special price. The letter also promised that the noise, traffic and crowded stops that come with matchdays would remain on the club’s account.
That pitch lands now because RB Leipzig has long struggled to fill the Red Bull Arena for home games. The club has about 24,000 season-ticket holders, but that has not been enough to erase the emptier stretches that have become familiar on non-marquee nights. In the past, it sold Kombi-Tickets for several matches, a move meant to reduce the habit of turning out only for the biggest opponents such as FC Bayern or Borussia Dortmund.
The numbers explain why the club is reaching beyond its usual fan base again. The next home match against FC Augsburg is set for 7 November at 15.30 Uhr, while the game against FSV Mainz 05 has not yet been scheduled. Before the season, RB Leipzig tightened its rules for season-ticket holders, saying anyone who does not attend at least ten Bundesliga home matches themselves loses the right to renew the ticket.
That is the real pressure behind the appeal, even if the club’s letter puts the emphasis on the strains that matchdays place on local streets and stops. Residents are being thanked for tolerating the disruption, but the club is also trying to fill seats that have stayed stubbornly empty. The surprise action before the Augsburg and Mainz 05 games is not just a courtesy note to the neighborhood; it is another attempt to make the arena look and feel full again.
